Regional Data

Calgary Open Data Catalogue

The Open Data Catalogue includes data sets from various business units and departments. These data sets are available in multiple file formats and anyone can download the data sets at no charge.

Calgary Region Open Data

The Calgary Region Open Data catalogue provides free and open access to over 50 datasets from all over the Calgary Region and new datasets are being added on a continual basis. Open data is freely available to everyone in one or more open and accessible formats.

A collection of free/public datasets from Airdrie, Okotoks, Cochrane, and more.

Alberta Open Data Portal

The portal makes data the provincial government collects on behalf of citizens publicly available in machine readable formats with an open licence. This means there are no technical or legal restrictions for using the data.

Banff Open Data

OGDI DataLab is an open source cloud-based Open Data Catalogue. This codebase represents an update to the original open source framework released by Microsoft Open Government Data Initiative (OGDI).

University of Calgary’s Spatial and Numeric Data Services

Spatial and Numeric Data Services provides access to cartographic materials, GIS and statistical data and software. We can assist with finding resources both within and outside our collection.

Their website states that “[their] map and air photo collection is available to the public”. They house both licensed and open data.

National Data

GeoGratis

Maps and data from across Canada - topography, agriculture, geology, etc. Many different collections and a basic search tool to explore spatially. Including a REST API for requesting data and collection information.

Global Data

Natural Earth

Natural Earth is a public domain map dataset available at 1:10m, 1:50m, and 1:110 million scales. Featuring tightly integrated vector and raster data, with Natural Earth you can make a variety of visually pleasing, well-crafted maps with cartography or GIS software.

SnazzyMaps

Snazzy Maps is a repository of different styles for Google Maps aimed towards web designers and developers. This can be used in addition to Google Maps API Styled Map Wizard.

MMQGIS

MMQGIS is a set of Python plugins for manipulating vector map layers in Quantum GIS: CSV input/output/join, Geocoding, Geometry Conversion, Buffering, Hub Analysis, Simplification Column Modification, Color Ramps, and Simple Animation.
